Education Program

One of the major goals of this network is to create a joint program that allows the generation of multidisciplinary or hybrid researchers that will be prepared to face all the future challenges within the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Thus, the aim is to form a scientist (academic and industrial) that can at the same time, understand biological, chemical, physical and materials science phenomena.

In this sense, the natural way is to design and implement a high quality and complete education and training programme. Two different prepositions should be taken in consideration. The first consists in designing wide instruments to connect competences between different fields and targeting those who have not yet the possibility to be in touch with this multidisciplinary science. On the other hand, activities focusing rather narrow subjects will be undertaken aiming at training advanced researchers.

It is also necessary to keep our society informed on the evolution of this research area, a quite appealing plan when thinking on the general public. It is important to explain and popularise the complex scientific ideas involved, using a language that is understandable to a broader audience and to provide a number of facilities, such as an equitable and easy access to scientific sources and training, in order to increase the scientific literacy of the general public in this specific field. The aim of EXPERTISSUES, in this particular area, is to improve communication and mutual understanding between our science community and world outside, and to promote flow of information among the general public.

Some of the following integrating and merging activities are the basis of the NoE EXPERTISSUES Training and Education Programme:
  • Mobility of personnel: exchange of research staff and students of the different labs for sharing of know-how.
  • Design of European post-graduation courses in the frame of the NoE using a credit system (credits can be obtained after several working periods and/or courses at the different labs).
  • Training for all partners in the state of the art of the individual scientific fields to create a common awareness of the all area of research.
  • Organization of workshops and discussion forums within the network.
  • Organization of workshops, conferences, seminars and courses on specific subjects, open to researchers from outside the NoE, in order to create interfaces between the different scientific fields.
  • Regular press releases concerning topics of interest to the general public.
  • Explaining sessions to be held in high schools and universities and visits of young students (and other interested citizens) to the research labs of the NoE partners to promote the interest of young people for science and increase the generic comprehension for scientific issues.
  • Edition of scientific books, to be written in collaboration by the partners involved in the network, in order to better educate the future leaders of this very interdisciplinary field.
  • Edition of a new Journal on Tissue Engineering
