The management and organization activities of the NoE will be carried out
at three different levels:
- The decision making processes, that is the process how decisions are agreed between the partners
- The processes that lead to the implementation of the decisions within the project, the so-called operational management
- The process how implementation of decisions is monitored and controlled, and the way it is assessed, that is the implementation and assessment.
For this purpose several
Management and Governing Body were created:
- Steering and Management Committee (SMC)
The SMC will make decisions related with all contractual issues (approving all changes and amendments on it). The SMC will also be responsible for decisions on budget and its distribution, the confidentially issues and authorization for publications, changes in the consortium and its structure and alterations in the joint program of activities.
- Professional Management Team (assist SMC)
Other Important Management Structures:
- Integration Committee (IC)
The aim of the IC will be to coordinate all the integration activities involving the partners, evaluate the scientific foundation of guest experimental times at the NoE facilities, discuss and propose new investments (mainly new scientific equipment) and develop guidelines for the access to the databases and to the network facilities. The Integration Committee will be also responsible for the elaboration of the main milestones and deliverables of the Network regarding integration.
- Research and Technical Committee (RTC)
The RTC reports directly to the main management & governing body but will be operating in close co-operation with the heads of the different research vectors and with the Quality Assurance Board and with the Internal Ethical Advisory Committee. The information flow from/to the research vectors and other governing bodies will be made through the RTC.
- Education and Training Committee (ETC)
The ETC, together with the RTC, will ensure a strong day-to-day management of the planned joint program of activities on what concerns to training activities. It will be directly responsible for propose and implement the education and training orientations decided by the SMC and for monitoring the progress of those activities.
- Quality Assurance Board (QAB)
The QAB will be responsible for the Quality Assurance within the network. Each contractor will be responsible for, under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Board, ensure that their laboratory QA-trained researchers have sufficient training in good laboratory management practices with respect to personnel management, maintenance of equipment, search systems, stock management, efficiency of working methods used, equity and safety standards.
- Internal Ethical Advisory Committee (IEAC)
The IEAC is a non-binding advisory body acting as a consultation board in relation to International, FP6 and EU laws, guidelines, regulations and related codes of practice. When needed, it will contact local and national research ethics committees in order to give background support and make recommendations to the network partners about the ethical implications of the research. Any unforeseen subject that may arise during the course of the research will be handled by the Internal Ethical Advisory Committee that can be consulted by any partner within the network.
- Results Exploitation and Commercialisation Committee (ECC)
The ECC will study the possibilities of developing products and marketing them as a result of the knowledge developed within the network. It will propose decisions to the SMC on which several industrial partners are also represented. It will also be responsible for proposing the texts related with non-disclosure agreements and quality assurance rules that will facilitate the filling up of patents in order to ensure the protection of the generated IPR.
- Gender Awareness Group (GAG)
The GAG was created for promoting women in science, within and outside the NoE. The main aim of the GAG is to identify, promote and optimise the use of talents, skills and qualities of women in the EXPERTISSUES NoE. Therefore, it will be from its responsibility to develop effective strategies to ensure the full participation of women within the EXPERTISSUES activities. The GAG will be also involved on the implementation of several plans to motivate women to pursue careers in research, to establish a career development strategy for all younger scientists associated with the NoE, to inform the private sector for the financial benefits of recruiting and retaining women in their organisations. The GAG will be also in charge of monitoring career progress within the NoE (collecting statistics and indicators) to evaluate if the situation is improving and how it differs across scientific disciplines and, if necessary, it will propose some recommendations to implement some changes in the NoE organisation.
- International Advisory Board (IAB)
The International Advisory Board (IAB) is composed by well-known scientists from USA, Canada and Singapore that are responsible for some of the best tissue engineering groups outside EU. They will be involved on: advising the decision making bodies about how the project should evolve according to results obtained and evolution of the scientific field, the state-of-the-art, the related industrial sector and the market, assessing the work done and the way it is done according to a project quality plan containing a description of milestones and results (especially the way to evaluate them qualitatively and quantitatively) and procedures to be used within the project, and advising the decision making bodies about which results should be protected, disseminated and exploited and how to implement the knowledge protection, dissemination and exploitation.
