WP.9 In-vivo Functionality Assessment

workpakage 9

The mission of all the activities with respect to biomaterial research is the establishment of structure-function correlations for biomaterials in interaction with human cells to understand biomaterial-related pathology and to facilitate advances in the construction of improved and novel implants for medical application.

The main aim of this vector is:

  • To develop of adequate in-vivo functionality assessment tools, before moving to any clinical trials using different animal models;
  • To rabbits with induced bone/cartilage defects;
  • To analys the resorption rate of implants and the replacement by newly formed bone/cartilage in;
  • To analyse extent of the biological quality of the engineered tissue resulting from the cell-seeded scaffolds implanted.
